Mr. Anthony Spina Receives the Mendel Medal

Posted November 21st, 2015

The Mendel Medal Dinner, the most prestigious recognition presented by St. Augustine Prep, was held on campus for the first time in its 42nd year history. The Board of Directors and Fr. Reilly bestowed Mr. Anthony Spina, founding faculty member and legendary mentor who forever influenced countless Prep students by his example. Nearly 300 people attended the celebration, not only for Mr. Spina but for the Alumni of St. Augustine Prep and the path they have forged for today’s students and their families.

The evening culminated with exciting news; Chris Gheysens ’89 President/CEO Wawa announced the naming of the Anthony Spina Heritage Room, a space in the Vincent L. Buondonno Administrative Building devoted to recognize the memories and moments shared during the evolution of expansion throughout the history of St. Augustine Prep. Those in the room were invited by Chris to financially support this meaningful project as a demonstration of their appreciation and affection for Mr. Spina; Hermit Pride was abound!
