Prep Alumnus Prepares for the Olympics

Posted July 6th, 2015

Prep alumnus Brendan McHugh ’08 is gearing up for the Olympics. The three-time New Jersey State Champion in the 100 meters breaststroke, he is currently the U.S. Open record holder in the 50 meters breaststroke, winning it in 27.20 seconds. After graduating from the Prep, Brendan swam for four years at the University of Pennsylvania where he graduated in 2012 as the Captain of the swim team. He then moved on to study Law at Washington and Lee University where, after graduation this past May, Brendan is spending time training for the big event. He’ll start by competing in the World Championships, which begin on Sunday, August 2nd in Kazan, Russia. But that’s just the start, as he’ll then travel to both Moscow and Paris to compete in two World Cup competitions. Named to the 2014-2015 U.S. National Team, he is hoping to make the 2015-2016 team, where he will focus on securing a spot on the 2016 U.S. Olympic team…all while studying for the bar exam! Best of luck, Brendan!
