Small ’22, Udoh ’22 making an impact at West Point

Kanye Udoh may not be lining up in Army’s backfield if it wasn’t for high school teammate Brady Small.

Udoh was undecided on where he was going to play college football during his senior year at St. Augustine Prep (N.J.). Small had committed to Army earlier in the recruiting process.

Through Small’s advice, Udoh decided to continue his career with the Black Knights.

“It’s definitely humbling because my senior year of high school, I was indecisive on where I wanted to go,” Udoh said. “Brady helped lead me here and I haven’t regretted the decision since.”

After a year together at Army Prep, Small and Udoh have contributed early in their freshman season.

Small has started all four games at center. He’s the only freshman to earn first-team snaps. Small’s 244 snaps are third among Army’s offensive players behind senior lineman Connor Finucane (253) and junior quarterback Bryson Daily (245).

Udoh has worked his way into the running back rotation. He’s taken snaps in the first quarter of Army’s last two games against UTSA and Syracuse. Udoh scored his first career touchdown in Army’s 57-0 win over Delaware State in Week 2.

“At Prep, we (he and Small) would get extra work in the weight room and on the field,” Udoh said. “We always talked about how we can go there (Army) and how we can make an impact. It’s nice to see us doing it now.”

Kanye and Brady’s story of perseverance is a strong example of life as a Hermit Brother entering a new chapter as an alumnus. Their support of one another is a testament to the bond of the Brotherhood only growing in strength after a Hermit’s time in Richland has concluded.

The school is blessed to have alumni who continue to represent the Prep with the same pride and vigor they held as students. They are part of a distinguished list of Hermits Alumni who have earned distinctions in academics, military service, education, athletics, medicine, business, and a variety of industries. Visit St. Augustine Prep!

Prospective students and families, visitation season has begun at the Prep.  Below are the two types of Hermit Family Experience visitations for fall.

Morning Campus Tour (8 am-10 am)
Led by a Student Admissions Ambassador, each family will have the opportunity to explore campus together. This option allows the whole family to ask questions of current upperclassmen who are in the best position to provide insight into why they initially chose the Prep and all the Brotherhood has to offer. The tour is roughly 50 min with a meet-and-greet and final recap with members of the Prep Admissions Team.

Hermit for a Day (Full Day)
This allows for a prospective student to experience a “day in the life” of a current Hermit student. Student guests would be dropped off and picked up by their families via the Admissions Office. Students are paired with a Hermit in the corresponding grade level with similar academic and co-curricular interests.
