Freshman Experience

It’s the People Here Who Make the Biggest Difference-Shawn Carlin, Class of 2018

Today I sit, writing on my father’s laptop, on the cusp of my second semester at St. Augustine Prep. I look back on last semester, to my first day, and how nervous I was, and I think, I was such a fool! Not only did I survive my first semester at the Prep, but I’m thriving. I love getting on the bus in the morning, on my way to school, wondering what the day has in store, because every day here is a new adventure. There’s always something new to learn, a new challenge to overcome, another neat event going on during or after school. It really is a surreal experience coming here, because you know every day will be different. But my favorite part about coming here?

The people, definitely. Each day I arrive at school, I see people already hard at work; teachers hustling and bustling preparing their lessons, students either helping teachers, eating, or finishing homework from the night before (predominantly the last two). I already have a great group of friends who have made the transition from elementary/middle school to high school much easier, and my teachers are extremely diligent, offering extra help to those who need it, opening up to e-mail communication, and sometimes even offering after school seminars to study for exams. In the end, it’s not the classroom, or the material, or even the food, as hard to believe as it is, make your experience here at the Prep amazing. It’s the people who occupy it that really make your time here something special.
