Broken Record for Winter Crew

Posted January 11th, 2013

On Wednesday, January 9, the St. Augustine Prep Crew Team conducted their annual January erg machine testing. It turned out to be an eventful afternoon, as the school record for the lightweight 6K was broken by sophomore Josh Power. Josh pulled a 21:59, thus breaking the school record of 22:07 pulled by Kevin McHale (Class of 2004) nine years ago. Coincidentally, McHale, who went on to row at Cornell after graduating from St. Augustine Prep, has returned to teach in the Science Department and is one of the coaches of the crew team. He was present for the record-breaking performance.

“I think it’s great,” said a gracious McHale. “I am really excited for him. He works tremendously hard and is deserving of the record.”
