Dennis Gomes, Casino Operator and Friend of the Prep, Dies at 68

On Thursday, February 23, Dennis Gomes, the co-owner of Resorts Casino Hotel in Atlantic City and benefactor of St. Augustine Prep, died of complications from kidney dialysis. Mr. Gomes was 68 years old. His wife, Barbara Gomes, served on the Board of Directors at St. Augustine Prep from 2003 until 2012, retiring this past January. Mrs. Gomes dedicated a portion of her tenure to service as the Secretary of the Board. Mr. and Mrs. Gomes’ son, Aaron Gomes, the vice-president of operations at Resorts, graduated from St. Augustine Prep in 2000. In addition to his wife Barbara and his son Aaron, Mr. Gomes is survived by his three daughters Mary, Danielle, and Gabrielle; and three grandchildren.

Mr. Gomes will be remembered for his business and marketing acumen, but the St. Augustine Prep community will remember him for his kindness, generosity, and commitment to Augustinian education.
