RICHLAND – The Hermits of St. Augustine Prep faced off against the Eagles of PVI on October 31, 2023, for the NJISAA State Quarterfinals! The Hermits were committed to defeating their rivals and advancing to the NJSIAA State Semifinals. St. Augustine came out determined, maintaining most of the possession. Toward the end of the first half, during the 30th minute, Ryan Wieand ’24 netted a beautiful shot to the opposite corner to put the Hermits up 1-0. Shortly after, in the 32nd minute, PVI received a yellow card. The short domination of possession and the exceptional passing patterns led St. Augustine to shut out the Eagles for the rest of the opening half.

At the outset of the second half, it was apparent the Eagles of PVI were determined to persevere and tie up the game. PVI began to control most of the possession and had a couple of great chances to score – all of which were dismissed by Hermits Goalkeeper Mason Taylor ’24. The Eagles were bringing more energy, attempting more slide tackles and getting more physical. This aggressive play led to PVI conceding three yellow cards in the second half. The Eagles were shown caution in the 55th minute, the 61st minute, and the 76th minute. This did not deter PVI as they continued to put pressure on the Prep defense.  However, the Hermits’ skill in the back line was too substantial. The Hermits held on for the rest of the game, conquering the PVI Eagles 1-0!

Ryan Wieand’s goal had successfully defended the glen. The Hermits will move on to play the Christian Brothers Academy Colts on Friday, November 3rd, at 3 p.m in the semifinals. Be there to support your Hermit Brothers!
