Monfardini Named Head Soccer Coach

Posted December 9th, 2011

Mario Monfardini has been named the Head Soccer Coach at St. Augustine Prep.  Monfardini has been the head coach at Sacred Heart for the past two years where he compiled a 35-5-1 record and won two CAL National Conference titles.  A 1994 graduate of St. Augustine, Monfardini was a member of two state title teams and is the 3rd leading scorer in the school’s history.  He played his college soccer at Lehigh University where he was a four year starter and continued his career in the USL with the NJ Stallions and later with the Delaware Wizards.  Monfardini replaces legendary coach Les Heggan who recently announced his retirement.  Athletic Director Tony Iaconelli anticipates a smooth transition. “Mario is an excellent young coach who has an understanding of the rich tradition at St. Augustine.  He is the perfect candidate to continue the model of consistency that Coach Heggan has set for the program.”
