Trio of Hermit Vocalists earn All-State Status

Posted April 23rd, 2018

The St. Augustine Prep Fine Arts Department has experienced significant growth over the past few years.  As the development of the program continues, statewide recognition of our students has become the norm year in and year out.  This academic year is no different as a trio of Hermits have earned All-State status.

Traditionally, up to 1,200 students audition with only 300 earning a selection to offer their talents as part of the NJ AllState Chorus. Mr. Matthew Wolf, Fine Arts Department Chair, sponsored 10 students to audition, seven from St. Augustine Prep and three from Our Lady of Mercy Academy. Listed below are the students that have been earned selection into the groups.

St. Augustine Prep

Nicholas Mahon (Mixed Chorus)

Matthew Pond (Mixed Chorus)

Luka Villani (Mixed Chorus)

OLMA

Alaina Balestriere (Mixed Chorus)

Atira Smith (Treble Chorus)

Performances do not begin until November but the rigorous rehearsal schedule begins in June. The five honorees will have a familiar face leading the way as Mr. Wolf will continue in his position as Manager of the NJ All-State Mixed Chorus.  Dr. Chris Thomas from Rowan University will be conducting the group with the Treble chorus slated to be led by Dr. Lynnel Joy Jenkins from the Princeton Girlchoir.

Our scholar-vocalists may not hit the All-State stage until November but you may catch them in action on Friday Evening at the Spring Choral Concert to be held at Kathedral Event Center in Hammonton, NJ.  (Concert begins at 7 pm; reception at 6 pm)
