Hermit Brotherhood and the College Process

Posted October 3rd, 2017

While the thought of leaving Richland’s Proud and Peaceful Glen may cause sadness for many of our Christian Gentlemen; graduation serves as the beginning of their life-long journey as a St. Augustine Prep Hermit.  The college selection process for our seniors is the first step towards fulfilling the responsibility of becoming “men to serve.”

Mr. Bill Tyrrell, a graduate of the class of 1991, embodies the spirit of Brotherhood by sharing his knowledge and expertise with his Hermit Brothers.   Mr. Tyrrell addressed the senior class during enrichment period and provided them with a course on interview skills and techniques.  He spoke on many subjects ranging from how to use social media to your benefit, to warming up to your interviewer. He also explained how to make both parties feel relaxed within the interview, as well as giving tips on preparedness and even selecting proper attire.  This is all an area of familiarity for the 1991 alumnus, Mr. Tyrrell has hired hundreds of college graduates and over 500 technical and nontechnical consultants/contract professionals during his 10+ years of experience in technology staffing and business development.

The advice of Mr. Tyrrell comes at a critical time for this year’s crop of seniors.  This Thursday brings to Richland, 24 professionals from the Prep Community who will assist our seniors with additional preparation for October 12th’s College Interview Day.  The lessons learned from our gracious volunteers have traditionally benefitted our seniors.  It is a common occurrence for our students to receive instant acceptances that are accompanied by generous scholarships offered on the spot!  Mr. Tyrrell’s advice is a valuable resource for all of our students and his generosity is a model for both current and future St. Augustine Prep Alumni!

There were questions aplenty as seniors were eager to prepare for College Interview Day!

Although this year’s mock interview day has been booked, the Department of College Guidance is always looking for volunteers for this critical day for the senior class.  This is an annual event and you may contact Mrs. Carol Castelli at ( or Ms. Colleen Salvati ( to inquire about participating in next year’s installment!  You may also learn more about the college process at St. Augustine Prep below or visit College Connections.
